How to play
Princess tribal evasive midrange — restored. The stock Fabled Princess Power deck ships the right archetype with the wrong copy counts: the cost-reducer is at 2-of, the tribal anthem at 1-of, the only mass removal at 2-of, and the deck has zero card draw. The Core kit fixes those four engine pieces and adds a 2-lore 1-drop the deck never had.
Win condition: out-quest through a Resist-protected Princess board. Aurora HC reduces costs, Beast GP buffs every Princess, Cinderella sings free removal, and Daisy Duck adds 2-lore-per-turn from the 1-cost slot. By turn 6 you're questing for 6+ lore per turn behind +1 ⛉ bodies that don't trade into common challengers.
Three pace checkpoints — these are the turns that matter:
- Turn 2 — Aurora HC plus a 2-cost Princess on board: the cost chain is live. Aurora Regal Princess for 1 ink, or Aurora Tranquil Princess at full cost behind Ward.
- Turn 4 — Cinderella lands or Lost in the Woods sings: Singer 5 is online. The first Lost in the Woods clears any 2-strength opposing board and sets up the anthem turn.
- Turn 6 — Beast GP on the table: anthem fires. Every Princess on the board gains +1 ¤ and +1 ⛉. From here you out-pace anything that isn't sweep-removing twice.
The quest-vs-challenge rule. Princesses are questers, not fighters. A 2-lore Princess questing 4 turns is 8 lore — the same Princess dying in a challenge is 0. Only challenge when Lost in the Woods has dropped their strength to 0 and a body would otherwise out-race you.
Out-of-box deficiency: the stock list runs 9 non-Princess slots (Mufasa, Cruella, Pluto Rescue Dog) that don't trigger Aurora HC's Royal Welcome or Beast GP's anthem. The kit cuts those 9 plus three single-copy legendaries and reinvests every slot into the tribal engine.
Mulligan
Two-option blind alter.
- Option 1 — Cost-chain keep (default): Aurora - Holding Court plus any 2-cost Princess. 2-cost options: Aurora - Regal Princess (2/2 2-lore inkable), Aurora - Tranquil Princess (1/3 with Ward), or Belle - Inventive Engineer (3-cost on curve T3). The chain pays off T2: Aurora HC quests, Royal Welcome triggers, the next Princess this turn costs 1 less.
- Option 2 — Tempo keep (OTD default): Sail the Azurite Sea plus a 2-cost Princess. Sail T2 inks an extra card and draws — that single extra ink makes you OTP-equivalent on T3 and digs for the Princess curve.
Always keep: Daisy Duck - Donald's Date in any opener. She's an uninkable 1/4 2-lore body — the highest lore-per-ink rate at the 1-cost slot. Her base 4 WP already dodges most 1-2 cost challengers (note: she's an Ally, not a Princess, so Beast GP's anthem doesn't apply to her).
Conditional keeps:
- Hans - Noble Scoundrel when you also have an early Princess on board. ROYAL SCHEMES gains 1 lore on play if a Princess or Queen is already in play. Hans is a 3-cost 3/2 2-lore body — fine on rate, but the lore trigger needs the early Princess setup.
- Lost in the Woods if you have a 4+ cost Princess to sing it free. Otherwise it's a 4-ink commitment you're casting raw.
- Cinderella - Gentle and Kind if you also have Lost in the Woods or World's Greatest Criminal Mind in hand. Her Singer 5 is the song engine.
Never keep blind:
- Two copies of Daisy Duck (one is dead in the inkwell — uninkable).
- Beast - Gracious Prince alone. He's a 5-cost mid-game pivot, dead in your hand T1-T3.
- Look at This Family (6-cost Sing Together 7) — you should already have cut it.
- Hands with no characters under 3 ink. The cost-reduction engine needs early Princesses to fire.
Ideal T1-T4 line: Aurora HC T1 → Aurora Regal Princess T2 (cost-reduced to 1 ink, second 1-cost Princess deploys same turn) → Hans Noble Scoundrel T3 (gain 1 lore on play, Princess already in play) → Cinderella T4 with Lost in the Woods sung free. End of T4 you're at 5+ lore on board with mass -2 ¤ in effect.
Key cards
The 12 cards going IN — engine restoration:
| # | Card | Role | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-2 | Aurora - Holding Court (×2 to bring to 4) | Cost-reducer | ROYAL WELCOME: "Whenever this character quests, you pay 1 ⬡ less for the next Princess or Queen character you play this turn." Engine pieces must be 4-of. 2-of meant you saw her in ~50% of openers; at 4 it's 75%+. The single highest-impact swap in the kit. |
| 3-4 | Beast - Gracious Prince (×2 to bring to 3) | Tribal anthem | FULL DANCE CARD: "Your Princess characters get +1 ¤ and +1 ⛉." 5-cost 5/4 1-lore inkable. 3-of (not 4) because at 5 ink he's a mid-game pivot. With anthem, Aurora Regal becomes 3/3 2-lore, Tranquil becomes 2/4 1-lore, Daisy Duck becomes 2/5 2-lore. Whole tribe survives challenges. |
| 5-6 | Sail the Azurite Sea (×2) | Ramp + draw | "This turn, you may ink an additional card. Draw a card." The deck's only card-velocity piece. T2 going second cancels the OTD ink-disadvantage entirely and lets you deploy a 4-cost on T3. 2-of preserves character density. |
| 7-8 | Daisy Duck - Donald's Date (×2) | 2-lore 1-drop | Uninkable 1/4 with 2 lore. The lore rate is 1.0 per ink at the 1-cost slot — best in the deck. Quests T2 onward; by T5 she's accumulated 8 lore from a single card. NOT a Princess (Storyborn/Ally), so Beast GP's anthem does not buff her — but her base 4 WP already shrugs off most 1-2 cost challengers without the anthem. The lore math earns the slot. |
| 9-10 | Lost in the Woods (×2 to bring to 4) | Mass removal | "All opposing characters get -2 ¤ until the start of your next turn." Sung free off any 4+ cost character — Cinderella, Belle, Mulan Free Spirit, Beast all qualify. 4-of is the standard for the deck's only sweep. Setup turn for Beast anthem. |
| 11-12 | Aurora - Regal Princess (×2 to bring to 4) | 2-lore 2-drop | 2-cost 2/2 2-lore vanilla Princess. The most efficient questing rate on a Princess body in Core. With anthem 3/3 2-lore. The deck's spine — 4-of cements the early Princess board every game. |
The 12 cards coming OUT — non-tribal filler:
| # | Card | Why cut |
|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | 3× Mufasa - King of the Pride Lands | NOT a Princess. 6-cost vanilla; doesn't trigger Aurora HC or Beast GP. |
| 4-6 | 3× Pluto - Rescue Dog | NOT a Princess. Heal-on-play is redundant with Cinderella + Rapunzel + Jasmine + Julieta. |
| 7-9 | 3× Cruella De Vil - Fashionable Cruiser | NOT a Princess. 3/2 Evasive doesn't slot into a tribal that wants every body to be on-tribe. |
| 10 | 1× Mulan - Considerate Diplomat | 1-of Princess tutor at 5-cost. With every Princess at 4-of post-kit, the tutor target is redundant. |
| 11 | 1× Grand Pabbie - Oldest and Wisest | 7-cost uninkable 1-of. Niche; you see him in ~12% of openers. |
| 12 | 1× The Queen - Mirror Seeker | 1-of 4-cost top-3 manipulation. Replaceable in Tier 2 by Hen Wen for the same role. |
Curve shape unchanged: 1-2 cost Princess density, anthem at 5, finishers at 5-7. Every replaced slot is now an engine piece or removal instead of off-tribe filler.
Matchups
vs. Amethyst/Steel Midrange (Even): Watch for: 4-cost mass-removal actions, Steel defensive bodies The biggest Core archetype (~18-22% share). Their plan is board control via mass-removal songs plus late questing. Beast GP anthem is the swing piece — every +1 ⛉ stacked onto your Princesses raises the damage threshold their removal needs to clear. Lost in the Woods at 4-of handles their Steel walls (drops a 3-strength body to 1-strength). Aurora HC's cost reduction means you deploy a Singer 5 threat on T5 instead of T7; that 2-turn tempo lead is the matchup.
vs. Blurple (Amethyst/Sapphire Control) (Unfavorable): Watch for: Let It Go, Merlin Goat bounce Let It Go tucks one Princess into the inkwell — sung free off any 5+ cost body, it removes Aurora HC or Beast GP cleanly. The deck has no Ward on the engine pieces. Don't deploy Beast GP onto a board where they have 5+ ink open; bait their Let It Go on a redundant Princess (Aurora Tranquil with Ward forces the challenge route). Daisy Duck's uninkable lore is immune to board-wipe timing — she keeps questing through a control reset.
vs. Ruby/Steel Challenge Aggro (Favorable): Watch for: Strength of a Raging Fire, early Rush bodies Their removal scales with their own board, which lags your wide Princess flood. Aurora HC is 1/2 — she doesn't challenge; she quests. Beast GP anthem makes a 1/3 Aurora Tranquil into a 2/4 — Strength of a Raging Fire at 2 of their bodies in play deals 2 damage, which clears 1-WP 1-drops but not most of your Princesses. Lost in the Woods on T4 ends the race.
vs. Princess Tribal mirror (Even): Watch for: Aurora - Regal Princess, Beast - Gracious Prince A 7-lore Singer body in 3 turns, both directions. Pure speed. Whoever lands Aurora HC + Aurora Regal Princess on T1-T2 gets the cost-chain a turn earlier. Lost in the Woods is a 1-for-many — sing it on the turn they're attacking widest. Don't overcommit Princesses into a mirror where they have 4+ ink open and Lost in the Woods in their list too.
vs. Hyper-Aggro (Amethyst/Emerald Evasive) (Even): Watch for: Fairy Ship Royal Vessel, 1-2 cost Evasive questers Their flood undercuts your wide-board math before density kicks in. Mulligan hard for Aurora Tranquil Princess (1/3 Ward) and Cinderella + Lost in the Woods. Cinderella's A WONDERFUL DREAM heals 3 damage off chosen Princess each turn — note this targets Princesses only (not Daisy). Between the Princess-side heal lattice and Beast GP anthem you outlast their flood by T6. Lost in the Woods at -2 ¤ neuters their entire combat math for a turn, buying the Singer 5 setup window.
Tune It
Against Blurple-heavy meta (Let It Go shells dominating locally): -1 Aurelian Gyrosensor / +1 Aurora - Tranquil Princess to 4-of. Ward is the only protection the deck has against single-target tuck removal. Maximizing Tranquil copies forces Blurple to spend a challenge instead of a free Let It Go target.
Against aggro-heavy meta (Lore Rush + 20 Lore variants): -2 Maid Marian - Delightful Dreamer / +2 Anna - Braving the Storm if you can splash her. Maid Marian's 4/4 stat line is a luxury at 5-cost; what aggro actually punishes is your low-WP early Princesses. 4-WP 2-drops with I WAS BORN READY do the work.
Tier 2 — LGS-Ready (~$22, ~16 cumulative cards): +2 Sail the Azurite Sea to 4-of (cementing card draw), +2 Hen Wen - Prophetic Pig (2-cost 1/4 with top-deck filter, replaces the cut Queen Mirror Seeker), +2 Helping Hand (Sapphire 1-cost: Support + draw, more card velocity).
Tier 3 — Tournament Power (~$25, ~25 cumulative cards): Full Princess tribal rebuild. +2 Belle - Mechanic Extraordinaire (Ruby/Sapphire dual-ink Princess Inventor closer, 9-cost Shift target), +4 Let It Go (Sapphire 5-cost song, sing off Cinderella for free, mirror counter), drop the Motunui - Island Paradise copies for tighter character density. Win-con shifts from Beast anthem closer to Belle ME late-ramp.
Cards to keep forever from the stock list: Aurora - Holding Court, Aurora - Tranquil Princess, Aurora - Regal Princess, Belle - Inventive Engineer, Cinderella - Gentle and Kind, Hans - Noble Scoundrel, Lost in the Woods, Jasmine - Heir of Agrabah. These eight cards are Core staples that anchor every Princess shell.
What to do with the cuts: Mufasa copies sell or trade well to Lion King fans (strong collector demand). Keep one of every cut card for Sealed/Draft pools per the Lorcana sealed/draft rules — no 4-copy cap in Limited. Donate Cruella copies; gift Pluto copies to friends learning the format.
Margin note (speculative — Set 12 spoilers, not final): Daisy Duck - Donald's Date is the kit's largest single-card cost (~$5.10 each at Lorcast 2026-04-30). If S12 Wilds Unknown drives a Sapphire/Amber demand spike, her price could rise enough to compress the kit's already-tight ~13% gross margin below the $15 floor. Re-price before the next inventory pull if Lorcast shows a >20% bump.
Outlook: Core-legal through Set 13 rotation. No near-term rotation pressure on engine pieces — Aurora HC, Beast GP, Cinderella, Hans Noble Scoundrel are all S9 and stay legal. Watch S12 for any new 2-cost 2-lore Princess as a direct Aurora Regal Princess stackmate; that would be the next Tier 3 swap target.
